Hello! I’m Ms. Yongyi, a Math Tutor at Tip-Top Brain. In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, and exploring new restaurants throughout the city. Growing up, I had several role models, but the ones who stood out the most were my teachers and professors. Their ability to make subjects interesting and their passion for teaching left a lasting impact on me. I aspire to follow in their footsteps and inspire students, helping them discover their curiosity for learning and bringing that excitement into the classroom.
I graduated as valedictorian from Queens High School of Teaching, Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of my favorite experiences was the Teaching Institute program, where I shadowed a 7th and 8th-grade class. This experience gave me firsthand insights into working with students and various teaching methods. I also volunteered in an after-school program, assisting younger students with their homework.
Currently, I am a senior at Stony Brook University, majoring in mathematics, and I’m set to graduate in December 2023. My original plan upon entering college was to use my math degree for a career in finance. However, as I progressed through college, I discovered my true passion. I realized that I always wanted to help students understand and appreciate math, showcasing its usefulness and fun aspects. During my time in college, I tutored my peers in various math courses, reinforcing my desire to pursue a master’s degree in mathematics education after graduation.
What I enjoy most about working at Tip-Top Brain is creating an inspiring and educational environment for the students. During the summer, it was incredibly rewarding to see how the program positively impacted the campers. I’m excited about the chance to teach and work alongside students during the school year too, and demonstrate how learning can be both enjoyable and valuable.
